[Oh. Wow. He's not sure if he's happy for Gaius or really worried for him now, but he sits at the counter, feeling weird, like this is all a surreal dream or maybe he's finally woken up from an endless nightmare. Normal or the brothel, they can't both exist in the same world, it's too extreme.]
[Aaaa!! How is he supposed to focus on being nosy when there's coffee ignorance right in front of his face!]
No, never mind. We've known him almost two years, but that's what I was asking you for. He doesn't talk about himself much. And lately... Well, just look at them. But if I ask he says there's nothing going on.
[He heaves a sigh, setting a cup of tea down in front of Rean.]
Anyway, if I make you one for free, will you give coffee a try?
[It's... not easy at all. There's going to be a lot of tests, and for the next few weeks it'll be touch and go. Crow's admitted to a hospital and, while he pastes on the cheer, he's obviously fading. Three separate times he starts to slip -- three times, Rean has to watch the hospital staff tensely gathered, doing all they can just to keep Crow breathing. The first two times it's eerily quiet. He just falls asleep, goes limp, without any struggle.
The third time... Well, by then they've figured out it's less a real physical problem and more something else. His soul, dragged back into an artificially repaired corpse, is losing its connection. Theoretically his body should be fine, but as he struggles to stay alive the frankly bizarre mana fluctuations are tearing it up. They think they can treat it, with the witches' help, but it's going to take awhile and a lot of repeated sessions of forcefully redirecting that mana back into the correct flow until it stabilizes.
And that hurts. His whole body hurts horribly, except where it's numb. Crow does his best not to show it, but the third time he nearly dies it's a violent reaction, and he's left screaming and convulsing as nurses try to hold him down and Vita tries to get it under control. Delirious from pain and drugs and forgetting Rean's right there, Crow begs her to just let him die already.
On the upside, by the time Crow wakes up from that, things have finally settled down. It looks like, with a little time, he'll be fine. He can go home whenever Rean's ready, or has someone arranged to keep an eye on things. On the downside, when Crow wakes up, everything is dark. He can feel his fingers for the first time in awhile, but he can't see, so for a second he just thinks he's really dead. But he can still feel a tube in his arm, so--]
...Rean?
[Of course the first thing he looks for is Rean. Just like every time he's woken up since this started.]
[Kissing back is just automatic. He's wanted to kiss Rean for a long time, after all. He's loved him, just as long, just as frustratingly hidden. So for a moment he melts into it, before jerking back and putting his hands on Rean's shoulders.
His face is red but he's also just worried.]
...This is a mistake.
[It's not good. If they do this, they can't take it back, and it'll only hurt more when Crow leaves.
But he's not actually saying no anymore. Maybe... maybe he can just lie, so Rean can be happy until the time they part.]
[Mostly he's just confused at the turn the teasing has taken. Blushing a little and flustered but he's honestly a pretty even-keeled young man, so it's not really that he's off-balance. He's just adjusting to catch up to Crow.]
It's only the best. Strong and full-bodied, unlike your fancy tea.
[Hmph! But Machias does make really good coffee. When he pushes the cup over, black and untouched, it's a mellow, deep taste, sweet and bitter like dark chocolate.]
[He was there and while he's mad about the just kill me shit he's more relieved than anything that Crow is in fact... Still here. For now. Hopefully for a long time, but that's going to be a long road with a lot of battles ahead. As soon as Crow stirs, says his name, he's lacing his fingers with Crow's, wiping at his sleepy eyes.]
[He's not forcing it, he's a little loopy and very very turned on and kind of dazed just from a kiss but right now any touch is amazing and he'll lean into the hands on his shoulders.]
[His hand tightens on Rean's nervously, but he doesn't actually look at him. He's trying, but despite his pupils being totally blown he can't find his face.
He's forgotten about the asking to die thing. He was definitely not in his right mind at the time. But he's freaking out a bit now, and wondering if this means he's really not going to make it.]
[He's going to pretend he's caving. He is, sort of. Halfway, in that he's going to let this happen. That might make the betrayal he's planning worse, but if it gets them to the point where Rean's safe, he'll accept that. It'll just be the cherry on top of the guilt sundae.
Right now though he's smiling a little, sadly, and cupping Rean's cheek in one hand.]
[He's leaning desperately into the touch. Much as he wants to have the self-control and poise to be not a drugged out mess, he doesn't. He can't willpower through his own neediness into the strength he knows they both need from him, so he'll just have to rely on his stubbornness to make sure it'll be fine in the long run no matter what.
Which is more instinctive reasoning than conscious thought right now, when he wants Crow so much it's crowding out other thoughts entirely.]
How many ways do I have to make it clear I want you for you to believe me?
[The whole "I love you" issue is another thing he can continue to address forever but like, currently, wanting Crow is tied as much to lust he knows he's not in control of as it is to his own love for him.
To illustrate though he'll just try to climb on Crow.]
[And the new guy perks right up, happy for the offer. He seems... Simple. Not really in a stupid way, but his emotions are as straightforward on his face as they are over the link.]
[But instead of explaining he just, drinks some more coffee. It's... Nice. but he feels also like he might start crying. Which would cause a scene, which would be a problem.]
